Have
you ever tried to cancel your AOL account? It is
extremely
difficult. I have done it twice over the years.
There first
tactic is to give you three months free, even though I said I did not
want it nor did I use it. Then after three months the
automatic
deductions begin again. Three weeks ago I suggested Katie and
Paulette cancel their subscriptions to save some money and switch to
Gmail (which is free). After two seconds they both said
absolutely not. One week later Katie's savings account was
hit
with a charge from AOL. She is battling AOL and her bank over
that one. She has switched to GMail in the mean time.
This morning Paulette called to cancel her account. When she
said
she was unemployed they canceled it without further discussion.
She does get to keep her e-mail account and her
address
book so she is a happy camper.
Yesterday as I was cleaning the kitchen because I could not stand it
any longer. Katie said when that happens to her she just
moves to
another room. She is much more practical than I am.
That
reminds me of the famous athlete who said when he is overcome by the
desire to lift weights he lays down until it passes.

Employment
Last spring when we decided to move to Georgia I was concerned about
replacing my income here. Governmental jobs are hard to come
by,
and there is very little turn over. I did some research and
found
we were moving to Cobb County, and Fulton County and the City
of
Atlanta were nearby. In June, July and August I was
surprised
and delighted to find out there were three openings at Cobb County
which I was qualified to do. Then last week I was approached
about an excellent six to nine month opportunity City of Atlanta.
So, within five months, I had four excellent opportunities.
As it turned out, I only got one interview.
We were
told it is who you know and not what you know here. I can see
that now.
Previous to working at Washoe County I was working temporary positions
waiting for the ideal opportunity to come along. Whenever
some
one
would complain about the County (including myself) I would either think
or say "but it sure beats unemployment". I must remember that
as
I wait for my next great opportunity. There is something out
there that is really fantastic.
On the bright side my assignment with the Simmons Bedding company was
extended another four weeks. They were named as one
of the
100 Best Employers by Forbes Magazine in 2004. The two
people I
work closest with worked for Simmons as temporaries before they were
hired full time. See, who you know, and fantastic
opportunities.
Hmm, I wonder.

Danielle
asked my to take her and her friend Kelsy to the movies last Saturday.
She wanted to see Saw II, a thriller about an evil genius
against the police. On the way over she informed me I would
have to buy the tickers because the Under 16 Must Be Accompanied by an
Adult is strictly enforced here in Georgia. OK, I thought, I
can buy the tickets and just leave. So when the agent sold me
three tickets I was perplexed. She informed me I had to pay
and watch the movie. I thought about sneaking out the front
or back. Then I decided I just could not walk away from seven
bucks, after all. Lo and behold, I did enjoy the movie.
The colors are changing from green to reds
and yellows.
Today it rained in the morning but it is sunny now.
